ROUTEMASTER uses road network files maintained by ASL and files created from detailed maps supplied from various sources in the United Kingdom. This constitutes the most comprehensive road network data in use by any vehicle scheduling system. The full postcode (including the walk) can be used to locate call points.
A key feature is that the system takes account of variations in road speed due to different traffic volumes throughout the day and night.
Features include:
A system for evaluating and adjusting regular routes. ROUTEMASTER enables this type of distribution to be planned easily using a program
costing less than half that of a full vehicle scheduling system.
A system for planning calls by salesmen or service engineers. ROUTEMASTER plans routes starting from different locations which could be salesmen's homes or depots.
A multi-depot system for large transport operations. ROUTEMASTER uses a multi-depot algorithm that has consistently been at the top in comparative tests against other routing systems.
A new 'trunking' system. ROUTEMASTER is able to plan the type of operation where vehicles do not necessarily return to the same depot after making deliveries or collections. Vehicles may transport either full or part loads between any places in the distribution area.
Journeys in the London area. Account can be taken of the Congestion Charging Zone.
