The Baltic Exchange is the world's premier and oldest international shipping exchange. Founded in London in 1744, it has grown to become the world's focus for bulk shipping and provides the only self-regulated market for shipbroking. Its members, predominantly shipowners, cargo interests and shipbrokers, are concerned with the matching of bulk ships and bulk cargoes and the sale and purchase of vessels. The Baltic's market share is vast. Members handle around 40% of the world's dry cargo fixtures and 50% of the world's tanker fixtures. Over half of the world's new and second-hand bulk vessels are bought and sold by Baltic members. Membership of this exciting market gives the organisations the ability to conduct their affairs with a strict business framework based on the motto "Our Word Our Bond". It also offers use of a dispute resolution service, access to a vast international shipping network, market information and a range of other benefits.

The Exchange is an electronic platform which enables users to access freight market information, Forward Freight Agreements and settlement prices.
