Alpetour, špedicija in transport, d.d.

The very beginnings of today's company ALPETOUR ŠPEDICIJA IN TRANSPORT, D.D. (ALPETOUR FREIGHT AND FORWARDING, Corp.) date back to 1947. 17th July 1947 and 9th December 1947 Mestno avtopodjetje Škofja Loka and Mestno avtoprevozništvo Kranj were founded. At that time the both companies operated as municipal companies supplying the regions of Škofja Loka and Kranj. In 1954 the associated company Transturist was founded, which was mainly engaged in transport of goods and passengers with seven trucks and six buses. At the beginning, in Kranj, there were only few employees and small number of trucks and buses, too. The company Avtopromet changed its name to Turistično prometno podjetje Creina Kranj in 1968.

In 1974 the basic organization of associated labour Tovorni promet was founded, which was one of the members of the associated organization Transturist. The basic organization's (Tovorni promet) principal business activity was internal and international transport of goods, thereby using 140 trucks and employing 199 workers. In the same year Transturist associated organization merged with organization Creina Kranj into composite organization of associated labour Alpetour, which reflected in a new organization form of the respective company. The company namely integrated in newly founded organization of associated labour Transturist-Tovorni promet.

The company operated in this form till 1990, when the basic organization of associated labour turned into socially owned company with full name Alpetour - Podjetje za mednarodni in domači transport, p.o., Škofja Loka. This was the first form of independent business, with no obligation to mutual pooling of resources.






The company reached this important turning point with 200 trucks and 315 employees.

In order to cope with business difficulties that arose as a result of Yugoslavia falling to pieces, the company had to adopt its internal organization, reduce the number of transport units, reduce the number of employees and branch out into freight forwarding and trading business activity. Consequently, the company has been in forwarding business and partly in wholesale trading since 1991.


In 1995 the company was converted into a public company with full name Alpetour, špedicija in transport, d.d., Škofja Loka. We are members of: FIATA, UIRR in IRU. As we started airfreight mediation in 1996, we are going to become a member of International Association of Air Freight Carriers IATA, and afterwards also members of FONASBA shipping agents.
