Taking care of capacity, reliability and safety on Dutch railways. That summarises ProRail's activities in a few words. Our working area covers more than 6,500 kilometres of railroad track. We maintain it, renovate it and expand it. Every day we guide over 1 million passengers and 80,000 tons of freight into the right direction. This requires effective use of railways. That is why we divide the capacity based on transparent, objective standards, resulting in a clear and easy-to-use timetable for each of the twelve transporting operators.

With the railroad timetable we manage, guide and follow railway traffic day in and day out. We divide tracks and operate signals and switches. In case of interruptions, we immediately take action. Together with the transport companies we repair the tracks and realise swift recovery of traffic. We continuously keep transport companies and passengers up-to-date by providing clear and up-to-the-minute travel information. Not only in stations, but also on radio and teletext.

From construction and maintenance to capacity management and traffic control: ProRail has a socially important task. A job that we take very seriously. It is our ambition to make ProRail the best railway manager in Europe in a few years time. With more than 2,900 motivated professionals, we are on our way.
