Georgian railway is a vital artery linking the Black and Caspian Seas and important part of the Euro-Asian Transportation Corridor - the shortest rote between Europe and Central Asia, the north and south. A concept of arail-link between them originated back in the 30's of the 19 th century, but realization begun only in 1865. In 1871 the railway movement on Poti- Kvirila (present Zestafoni) part was opened and in 1972, October 10, the first passenger train from poti arrived to Tbilisi. This very date is regarded to be the "birthday" of Georgian railway
