London Trams

London Trams is responsible for managing the way tram services are provided in Croydon through a 99-year Concession Agreement.

It oversees future tramway developments in London with knowledge acquired from negotiating the design, build, operation and maintenance of the existing tramway and involvement in the development of new national and international standards.

The department was formed in April 2001 and was rebranded as London Trams in 2003. It provides a single point of contact between Tramtrack Croydon Ltd, (TCL), the private company formed to run the Tramlink network and TfL.

London Trams is responsible for:

ensuring TCL operates a safe, economic and efficient service in accordance with the Concession Agreement and Performance Specification
ensuring TCL complies with statutory and TfL safety requirements.
reporting safety performance and ensuring TCL adopts continuous improvement in safety management
jointly developing and implementing initiatives for improving Tramlink services and integrating these with the bus network
managing issues relating to the construction of Tramlink.
Croydon Tramlink
TCL was awarded the 99-year Tramlink Concession Agreement in 1996 under the Government's Private Finance Initiative. TCL is responsble for day-to-day running of London's only tramway between Croydon, Wimbledon, New addington and Beckenham.
