The Role of the International Freight Forwarder over the last 100 years, has been to perform export services on a limited basis at the pier area. This may include arrangement for the movement of cargo from the origin point to its destination.

However, the role of the forwarder in the 1990's has changed considerably, in that we are now called upon to be more involved in contract rate negotiations and estimating transportation costs for sales and marketing divisions. The International Freight Forwarder must be flexible enough to adapt to the ever changing times while displaying aggressive and innovative ideas to help clients attain or maintain a competitive edge in the industry.

To be more specific, the freight forwarder must be able to provide the following services at a minimum:

Air, ocean, road, rail and inland waterway transportation

Detailed rate quotations and/or rate negotiation

Export packing functions on/off site

Worldwide network of agents

Inventory control systems/Expediting

Detail status reports

Customs clearance at destination

Local delivery service at destination

Detailed project logistical services

CILT Courses.
