Arrowfreight Ltd
Nottingham based freight forwarders Arrowfreight Limited, headed by David Huxley and Chairman of the Chamber of Overseas Trade Section, Howard Lea, have had a number of challenging shipments over the last few months. From Piraeus To California
A CNC controlled vertical boring machine weighing 250 tonnes has been shipped from Greece to Long Beach, California. The job necessitated two site visits to Greece to decide the best way to dismantle and load the shipment.
Several wide loads and two extra heavy ones were packed and secured to containers and flat racks on site 120km north of Athens, then delivered over the mountains to Piraeus for despatch by container ship to California.
All aspects of loading/packing, road transport and seafreight were co-ordinated by Arrowfreigth. The Machine is now being commisioned in California ready for aerospace engineering work.
The other end of the scale in size has been a number of hazardous cargo shipments and small samples of highly flammable liquid for airfreight despatch. Staff at Arrowfreight are trained to handle this type of cargo and advise on the advise on the very stingent packaging requirements that is covered by IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. Every two years staff have to attend training and refresher courses and pass examinations before they can deal with this sort of cargo.
Each of these cargoes provides variety and challenge that make the freight forwarding business so interesting and keeps Arrowfreight team on their toes.
