About ATS Euromaster
The Company
ATS Euromaster Ltd is the UK arm of the Euromaster Group, which operates in ten European countries with over 13,000 employees and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Michelin Group. ATS Euromaster was established in 1961 and has grown to become the UK’s second largest domestic and industrial full service tyre distributor and fleet market specialist.

The UK business was historically run as 8 largely autonomous, regional business units supporting a network of 550 branches with around 4600 staff. The separate regional business units were organised to deliver locally to our customers. However over several years the customer base began to change as more customers became National, European, and even Global in their operations and demanded a more ‘joined’ up service from our competitors and ourselves. As a consequence, the business embarked upon a massive programme of change to break down barriers between regions, standardising stock, systems and procedures and also gaining economies of scale by centralising many of the support functions. This resulted in a shared service centre for the support functions being set up in Birmingham at the end of 2001.

Historically, ATS Euromaster had traditionally covered all customers needing tyres for cars and trucks to agricultural and industrial. However in a response to change in customer demands and with the company car markets declining ATS Euromaster has had to attract more domestic customers. In order to do so, many retail concepts were adopted such as a mobile tyre-fitting unit offer. Michelin also injected money into the business to relocate sites and ensure that the brand was suitably positioned on the high street to attract its target audience in a changing market.

As a result of restructuring the organisation, customers were treated differently. Car drivers were treated differently to Truck operators and so on – this programme was known as specialisation. The idea behind specialisation was to treat customers differently, depending upon their needs and requirements.

Consequently, control of the branches was centralised but the Group was split into two key business units – Light Vehicles (LVBU), such as cars or small vans and Heavy Vehicles (HVBU), such as trucks or tractors. The network of branches was spread across the two units.

ATS Euromaster has faced many challenges over time and with the appointment of our new UK MD, Nick Gregg, who joined the company in September 2003; the business faces its next big milestone. Nick has joined the company with a fresh vision of how we can work together to drive the company forward. The vision involves a change in direction and operational performance that has never been seen by the business before, creating exciting times and new challenges for ATS Euromaster.

This exciting new programme was launched in January 2004 and has been given the title of ‘ONE Programme’. This change in culture and direction has moved the business away from what was a very internally, operations focused business to a business that is organised and focused on delivering on our customer promises. ATS Euromaster are focused, united and passionate about customers and delivering excellence as standard.

The Company has been brought together for the very first time into a single business unit. The traditional split of the business into two separate units, Light Vehicle (LVBU) and Heavy Vehicle (HVBU) has been removed, creating single strategies and operational practices, so that energy can be focused on fighting competitors externally and gaining new customers.

The country has been divided into 5 separate divisions each one being managed by a Divisional Operations Director who reports to the Group Operations Director at our Head Office.

Each Division holds approximately 110 centres, which comprise of a mixture of Truck, Car and Comprehensive centres as well as several Mobile units (Vans).

ATS Euromaster have the ISO9002 accreditation and the most highly trained staff in the industry, both business and private customers can rest assured that they are dealing with the best professionals in the business. When it comes to service, we offer an innovative Triple Choice; visit one of our Centres, use Mobile Fitting or Call and Collect – as well as a truly pan-European presence. Offering a comprehensive range of products and services, including tyres, brakes, batteries, shock absorbers, oil, exhausts and MOT Testing, we can also offer car fleet drivers a free 10-point health check.

There is also a tyre management service for trucks, offering fleet inspection, besides a service for companies leasing cars and light commercial vehicles, where faults are identified and rectified before a breakdown occurs.

A wide range of services are offered from re-grooving, fleet inspection, breakdown control and service work, to tailor made software packages to suit customers and company needs to help predict, monitor and optimise tyre expenditure. With the technology that has been developed in-house, ATS Euromaster is ahead of all its competitors by owning a large proportion of the market share, which is continuing to grow as the business develops. We are currently the number one supplier in the market place, providing haulage companies, agricultural businesses and the small one-man operators with not only tyres, but also a complete range of services surrounding the product.

Designed to compliment our existing network of fast fit centres, we also offer a Mobile Fitting Service. This is a revolutionary approach to fitting and ATS Euromaster is leading the way. We provide free on-site tyre safety checks to help identify problems before they even occur. Mobile units can be booked to fit tyres and batteries at a time that suits the customer and services can be provided at home, at work or at any convenient location nationwide.
