How it works:
A large volume of low-pressure air in cylindrical air bags or cushions is applied to the underside of an overturned vehicle. The sidewall of the trailer structure is not overstressed. The large surface area of the lifting bags gently cradles and lifts the trailer, higher through the recovery arc, until the center of gravity within the trailer is lifted to a point inside the base of the trailer width.
Why:
The longer the trailer (45’, 48’, or 53’), and the greater the “span” between the tires of the tractor’s rear axle and the trailer’s lead axle distance, the more you need for air cushions to lift and cradle the trailer.
Don’t do this:
If the truck and trailer were to be pulled upright by winch power using chains, cable, and straps, the sidewalls would be overstressed, the sidewall unsupported, and loaded trailer could break and collapse.
