Gold Coast Yachts®
vessels reflect the experience gained from years of commercial vessel construction, operation, deliveries and living aboard. The vessels are built one at a time by a skilled team of craftsmen trained in a variety of wood/epoxy composite construction techniques. Behind the scenes a computer-aided design and engineering team led by Roger Hatfield help supervise the work to ensure a consistent quality product. Typically the vessels have round bottom hulls built of strip planked Douglas Fir that is unidirectionally glassed inside and out. Integral structural floors prevent bilge accumulation of debris and tie together a strong, durable, monocoque structure that is easily maintained and which enhances the watertight integrity of the vessel. Components are prefabricated and assembled once the hulls are completed. The resulting structure is judiciously clear coated with moisture barrier epoxies before priming with an industrial epoxy primer and then finally painted with Awl grip topcoats to ensure a durable quality finish. The "heart" of a Gold Coast Yachts® sailing vessel is the rotating wing spar which offers the simplest low windage rig with the greatest efficiency. The direct result of the wing spar efficiency combined with the proper hull rocker and thick-sectioned-high- aspect-ratio rudder and dagger board produces maneuverability unparalleled by other catamarans.
