The hull structure is not uniformly stressed by the sea. Bending loads produced by waves and fore and aft rigging loads, concentrate stresses amidships and at the deck edge. The sea produces severe local loads when a yachts is being driven to windward. These loads result from slamming into the sea, and are concentrated on the lee side of the forward area of the yacht. Structural stiffening and closely spaced framing are needed to support the loads exerted on the hill during any serious offshore-cruising. |
