The initial concept for SAGA Yachts contained ideas that were destined to make waves in the sailing industry. Riding the first wave out of St. Catharine's in April 1996 was the SAGA 43. Creating that first wave was a small group of skilled boatbuilders who had joined to form SAGA Yachts in late 1995. With decades of experience constructing boats for some of the best know names in the industry in North America and Europe, there was no lack of talent or imagination in the new company.

At SAGA Yachts we think you deserve something new and truly refreshing to cruise into the 21st Century. And so, SAGA has taken advantage of a lack of corporate dogmatism and started from a clean sheet of paper.

"Talent and imagination" has meant that knowledge gained from the seemingly disparate worlds of cruising and offshore racing have been combined in a new type of boat—The SAGA model of boat! First the 43, then the 35, followed by the award winning 48 and soon to be followed by the 409, launching this spring.

It seems some leaders in the sailing business have difficulty being truly candid about the massive increase in hydrodynamic knowledge over the past 29 years. Vast improvements in sensor technology combined with complex computer modeling, data gathered from the large Open Class offshore fleet and increasingly sophisticated CAD software allow the modern boatbuilder to create boats that are far superior to those of the past. Superior speed with comfort at a lower price would seem to be desirable goals for any boatbuilder. Seemingly not for some builders, especially so, when their company's best seller happens to be a ten or twenty year old design.

The common thread throughout the SAGA line is "cruising", first and foremost. It's not that we don't understand racing, indeed our management team includes a former IOR International champion.

You will find that all Sagas display stellar sailing characteristics that will please any performance sailor, yet have full luxury accommodations for extended cruising and living aboard. Passagemaking speed, excellent ventilation, a high level of detailing, and low maintenance exteriors are our hallmark.
