Southampton Yacht Services was formed in 1980 at Shamrock Quay in Southampton and quickly became established as one of the best major refit yards in Europe, completing major refits and restoration works on a number of the large classic sailing and motor yachts such as Altair, Thendara, Ticonderoga, and Belle Aventure. In more recent years SYS is probably best known for rebuilding one of the most famous yachts in the world, the J Class Velsheda.

Over the last ten years SYS has become involved in fitting out Oysters for Oyster Marine and in December 2000 SYS became part of the Oyster Group concentrating on building the larger yachts in the Oyster range.
Southampton Yacht Services continues to build one-off yachts and refit both sailing and motor yachts. Savannah, Intuition and Ilona of Kylesku are all examples of the broad range of expertise within the workforce.

The highly skilled shipwrights are conversant with all types of hull construction, including aluminium, steel, composite and wood epoxy systems. These skills are complemented by the craftsmanship of the joiners whose vast range of skills and experience gives SYS the ability to produce both traditional and lightweight joinery styles.

Southampton Yacht Services offers a very comprehensive range of services that includes an in-house design and installation team for engineering and electrical systems. Whatever the requirement, the depth of experience and resources at SYS is applied to the same degree regardless of how small or large the project.
