Florence County Emergency Medical Services is a department of Florence County government, authorized by the Florence County Council to provide emergency medical services to our county residents and visitors. We provide full Advanced Life Support on a 24 hour basis, operating seven ambulances and one quick responder station, spread out across the county. Our main efforts concentrate on the metropolitan areas of Florence and Lake City, and the towns of Pamplico, Johnsonville, and Olanta. The area ambulance provider rescue squads are backed up by FCEMS at all times as needed. All ambulances are staffed with at least one paramedic and EMT. Florence County EMS provides primary patient care, stabilization, and transport to the hospital. We do not provide routine transport or convalescent transport services. All calls are received from Central Dispatch through an Enhanced 911 system, utilizing priority dispatch. All county agencies operate on a 800MHz common radio system. Currently FCEMS has 52 full-time employees, 43 of which are Paramedics, the rest a mix of EMT's and EMT-I's. We also employ 12 part-time personnel. Several personnel have received additional medical and specialty training and operate as our Special Operations Team. A new facility for the western portion of the City of Florence is now in operation, which will be a new place for an existing unit. A new station for the lower west side of the county is also open. A site for a new station for another southern county unit is being searched for. We have a network in place between our EMS stations, and are moving in-house paperwork and reports over to it. We have recently established an in-house database system for run reports, and will use this statistical and demographic data to point us in our needs assessments. We are very active in the local community, with SAFEKIDS and our EMS Explorer post, as well as providing many local educational opportunities.
