The Kent Karrier Dial-a-Ride service in the Canterbury district has recently expanded, with three buses now providing transport for those who have difficulty getting out and about.

For some time the service has been over-subscribed, however, there is now extra funding from the city and county councils for a third vehicle.

The buses are fully wheelchair-accessible, taking passengers from their front door to the shops and back again. The service is for people who are housebound or unable to use public transport because of a medical condition. People who live in a rural area more than 500 metres from a conventional bus route are also eligible.

The scheme is free to join and all that passengers have to pay is the fare which is either £1.40 or £2.60, depending on the actual journey. Journeys are booked at least one day in advance. The experienced drivers give passengers any help they need.
